Four men, Frederick Matthews, William Scattergood,Walter Price and Jack Hughes were the founders of this club. They also had the membership of Villa Cross Wesleyan Chapel in Birmingham. We would be at the lower part of the points table if our performance, away from home, had not been so impressive and unexpected. What we need is to perform well at Villa Park and we are focusing on our upcoming clashes there, with the heightened anticipation. Our ability to perform well away from home together with some good home results will anticipate the whole Europe.
If you ask some one outside the Birmingham to create a complete list of English soccer clubs that is a winner of the Champions League, they will surely be find it difficult. They will come up with the names of Liverpool and Manchester United and then don’t forget Brian Clough’s double titles with Nottingham Forest.
